LEGACY OF THE ELDER STAR: BRUSH THEM UP!

This colorful shoot-them-up demo offers a glimpse of what could be a hit in the coming year.

The hand-made graphics with wisely used brushes offer a great parallax effect. The game-feel is smooth and reactive at the same time. For controls, instructions or the menu, everything is smartly produced and makes a great teaser.
Sadly, the music is a bit disappointing compared to the quality of the game.

PAPETURA - ADVENTURE, PAPER, SCISSORS

A stunning looking game made of drawings, paper, cuts and pastes (but for real!) and passion obviously.

Please watch the trailer/making-of because it's not a joke! Light, animation, music and sound ... everything feels cozy and deeply moving in this adventure, point&click puzzle game. At some point you can be scared to touch anything as it look so fragile and fleeting.

It's only a demo and you can support the release on Indie Gogo.

DISPOSABLES - PLAY WINSTON WOLF!

It's mayhem in the house and you need to clean it up before the cops arrive.

In this stylish Winston Wolf simulator, you need to find the tools and tricks to clean up what could incriminate you. The physics engine is fun and the clean and warm design contributes to the 'Pulp Fiction' atmosphere.

CYBERPUNK 3776 - TAKE NO PRISONERS

A retro shoot-them-up in a cyberpunk universe with great graphic and sound designs.

Artful backgrounds and awe-inspiring parallax effects give this game a polished aspect that is seldom achieved. The straightforward storyline is good if you like arcade games but looks weaker considering the rest.

SLUGGISH MORSS - THAT'S ODD!

A moving exploration game with poetry, a wonderful soundtrack and an incredible Avant-Garde artwork.

Gameplay and controls are not at their best but the sight and experience are incredible.
The bits of poetry and dialogues make the story-line impenetrable.
It's just an unbelievable travel to a crazy universe.

GHOST COIN - 50 SHADES OF SCRATCH

Ghost Coin is a scratchcard-like game but ... no ... not really. It has a coin you use to scratch but that's all they have in common.

The rest is a mix of a Méliès movie, Eraserhead and a drowned circus band. It's a weird and interesting experience which leaves you wondering. Because deep down, you want this game (and life) to have meaning.

SWORDS & HAMMERS - BUILD AND DESTROY

Swords & Hammers is a fast-paced action-packed strategy game. The map is divided into 12 territories where you have to build a fortress or destroy the opponent's.

It was made in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 31 (reached the 4th place) and it's an impressive demonstration of smoothness and cleverness. Although the AI has some issues and controls can sometime be hard to tame (it was probably made for touch-screens), there is no learning curve and it's a thrilling challenge.

HI THERE!

This is the official launch of Fast-Paced Reviews, a blog dedicated to unusual video games and discoveries.

1982: Welcomed by Ottumwa High cheerleaders, 16 all-stars - ages 14 to 30 - gather on Main Street behind six of the top video games in the U.S.

It's the result of what I have wanted to do for a long time: reviewing games and uncovering their hidden sides. Fast-Paced Reviews is mostly about not very famous games and certainly not AAA games. Sometimes, it's just alpha or prototype versions.

I launched this blog, because I wanted to offer a new perspective on game journalism. I don't want to talk about DLC's, launch dates, pre-release, trailers, etc. I want to talk about games. Less about business and more about gameplay and innovation. Not so much about game hits but rather about pure entertainment and discovery.
Reviews are short because I don't have time to read lengthy critics so I guess there are other people who don't either. And because some games are very short, there is not much to say.

MOOON: WHEN A PLATFORMER MEETS MATISSE

An original platformer with nice puzzles to solve, fun level-design and an atypical Matissian design. The music does not exactly fit the mood but it's an overall great experience.

I usually get quickly bored with platformers, but I had fun with this one. (make up your own mind)

DUBSTEP + COLOR + VOXEL = CRITICAL ANNIHILATION

A colorful John Who style shooter made of voxels with a tasty soundtrack.
It is a refreshing game that grabs you by the shirt and shakes your whole body.
It is a demo but it's Greenlit on Steam

Please, use the standalone version for maximum pleasure.

MISSION LYNX IS SHRINKING!

Retro-arcade game with a spaceship, bricks and a shrinking window.
This fast-paced (hey, that's the name of the blog!) game gets faster and the screen smaller as you go.

Adding to the challenge is the wish to know how small the screen can grow rather than just getting a high score.

Allowing control with arrow keys would have been nice for non-qwerty keyboards.

An arctic expedition simulation game where you have to choose between keeping warm and saving your partner. This simple game with a survival aspect offers total immersion in a world of ice, solitude and emptiness.

As the creator explains, you should take your time, relax and explore.

THE LAST NIGHT - HAUNTING

Relive Westwood's Blade Runner in this cinematic platformer. It's haunting, beautiful and smart in every technical choice. Music and sound at their best. The mouthwatering game should be out in early 2016.

Let's hope it will be about more than just shooting everyone and watching the skyline.

PARASOMNIA BY ACATALEPT

The most epileptical experience you can find in a game. You go through fear, shivers, anxiety and a free-falling sensation in a Lynchian atmosphere. It's like mixing Mulholland Drive and The Cube and watching the result during a panic attack.

Very promising

SATELLITE THROUGH THE SURVEILLANCE CAM

Check on this space station for signs of activity and make sure everyone is OK.
A short adventure game with a peculiar design and a nice scenario. The "Surveillance Cam" video effect is an eyesore in fullscreen but the overall gamedesign is nice.

If you like "2001: A Space Odyssey" (and if you don't, please, leave now) you should definitely give this game a try.
